Hang Seng Index edges higher as U.S.–Iran pause eases oil prices
Monday, July 27, 2026       09:07 WIB

27th July 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong shares opened slightly firmer on Monday after signs of easing tensions in the Middle East helped steady investor sentiment and sent oil prices sharply lower. The United States has paused its air strikes on Iran after nearly two weeks of bombardment, while Tehran has also halted retaliatory action. Iranian officials have entered talks with Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. The de-escalation contributed to a five per cent fall in oil prices at the start of the week, easing concerns over potential supply disruptions.
Against this backdrop, the Hang Seng Index rose 30 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 24,993 at the open. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.16 per cent to 8,284, while the Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 0.4 per cent to 4,647.
In commodities markets, gold rebounded by more than one per cent, climbing back above 4,100 US dollars, as investors reassessed risk following the temporary halt in hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
In corporate developments, fast-fashion retailer Shein has passed its listing hearing with the Hong Kong stock exchange. However, the company's revenue growth has slowed in recent years and it reported a net loss of 99 million US dollars for the first quarter, according to preliminary disclosures.
