2nd April 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities opened lower on Wednesday, with the Hang Seng Index falling 39 points at the start of trading to 25,254. The benchmark at one stage dropped as much as 152 points to 25,141 and was last down 123 points, or 0.48 per cent, at 25,170. Turnover stood at HK$30.2 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index declined 25 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 8,479, while the Hang Seng Tech Index shed 27 points, or 0.58 per cent, to 4,728.
Technology stocks were among the main drags on the market. Alibaba retreated 1.7 per cent, Xiaomi slid 1.6 per cent and Meituan lost 1.2 per cent. Tencent fell 0.8 per cent, Kuaishou dropped 1.4 per cent and JD.com edged down 0.2 per cent. Financial shares also traded weaker, with HSBC down 0.6 per cent, AIA slipping 0.1 per cent, Ping An Insurance falling 0.8 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing declining 0.6 per cent.
