Hong Kong Stocks End Mixed on Caution Over Middle East Tensions; Two Firms Make Debut

(MT Newswires) -- Hong Kong stocks ended mixed on Tuesday as investors remained cautious amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The Hang Seng Index rose 37.35 points to end little changed at 24,788.14, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index slipped 24.82 points, or 0.3%, to 8,374.30.
U.S. President Donald Trump told aides he is open to winding down the military campaign against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely shut, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing administration officials.
Meanwhile, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank can afford to wait and assess the economic impact of the conflict.
Expectations have shifted toward the U.S. central bank keeping rates steady this year, after markets had previously priced in over 50 basis points of easing before the conflict began, Reuters reported.
In corporate news, two firms made their debut on the Hong Kong bourse.
Hangzhou Tongshifu Cultural and Creative closed 49% lower at HK$30.50 compared with the offer price of HK$60.
Shanghai FourSemi Semiconductor advanced 100% to HK$80, versus the offer price of HK$40.
