20th May 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities began the session in negative territory on Wednesday, with the Hang Seng Index falling 88 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 25,709 at the open. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index slipped 16 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 8,623, while the Hang Seng Tech Index also declined 16 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 4,840.
Financial counters led the downturn. HSBC Holdings dropped 1 per cent, while AIA Group retreated 0.5 per cent. Shares in Ping An Insurance fell 0.4 per cent, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing was down by the same margin.
Technology stocks showed mixed performance. Tencent Holdings traded flat, while Alibaba Group edged 0.3 per cent lower. Meituan slipped 0.1 per cent and Xiaomi declined 0.3 per cent. JD.com bucked the trend, rising 0.6 per cent. Kuaishou retreated 1.3 per cent, and Bilibili fell 0.5 per cent following the release of its earnings results.
