The FTSE 100 rose more than 0.5% on Wednesday, climbing to a fresh record above 10,380 after a 0.3% decline in the previous session, driven by energy and mining stocks.
Oil majors led gains, with Shell and BP up around 2% to 2.3%, as crude prices advanced for a second session amid rising geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.
Mining shares also edged higher as gold and silver extended their rebound, lifting Fresnillo by nearly 2.5% and Endeavour by 1.7%, while Rio Tinto gained 1%, Glencore rose 1.4% and Anglo American added 1.1%.
Copper was flat to slightly lower, limiting gains in Antofagasta.
On the downside, stocks seen as vulnerable to artificial intelligence disruption continued to fall, with Relx down 2%, London Stock Exchange Group lower by 1.4% and WPP down 2.2%, extending losses from the previous session as investors reassessed risks to their business models.
