Hang Seng Index ends with 44‑point rise to 26,629 as turnover hits HK$234.86 billion

22nd January 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong shares finished modestly higher after a choppy session, with sentiment buoyed by comments from U.S. President Donald Trump that a framework agreement with on Greenland has been reached and planned Greenland-related tariffs on eight European nations will not proceed. The Hang Seng Index opened 165 points higher at 26,750, briefly slipped into the red, then recovered into the close to add 44 points, ending at 26,629 on turnover of HK$234.86 billion. The Hang Seng Tech Index rose 0.3% to 5,762.
Among notable movers, Baidu (09888) climbed 4% to a record high and Pop Mart (09992) advanced 6%, while mainland insurers lagged, with China Life (02628) down nearly 4% and Ping An (02318) off more than 2%.
