6th May 2025 - (Hong Kong) Hang Seng Index edged higher on Monday following the long holiday break, supported by gains in HSBC and AIA.
The Hang Seng Index opened up 71 points, or 0.31%, at 22,576. The China Enterprises Index fell 8 points, or 0.1%, to 8,222, while the Technology Index dipped 1 point, or 0.01%, to 5,243. Technology stocks generally performed well, with Tencent rising 0.7%, Alibaba up 0.4%, Meituan gaining 0.5%, and Kuaishou increasing 1.6%. Xiaomi Group remained unchanged, while JD.com fell 1.5%.
Financial stocks showed mixed performance. HSBC Holdings rose 1%, and AIA Group surged 3.8%. China Ping An declined 0.7%, while Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing gained 1.9%. Automotive stocks also saw mixed results. BYD shares rose 1%, and Geely Auto gained 0.2%. NIO fell 1.8%, Xpeng Motors dipped 0.1%, and Li Auto increased 0.6%.
