16th May 2025 - (Hong Kong) Hang Seng Index (HSI) opened 204 points lower on Friday, down 0.87% to 23,249 points, as weak sentiment weighed on the market. The China Enterprises Index slipped 78 points or 0.91% to 8,431, while the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 50 points or 0.95% to 5,247.
Technology stocks led the decline, with Alibaba Group plunging 6.1% following its latest earnings report. Other major tech players also saw losses, including Tencent Holdings (-1.1%), Meituan (-2%), JD.com (-1.3%), Xiaomi Corporation (-0.3%), and Kuaishou Technology (-1.3%).
Financial stocks showed mixed performance. HSBC Holdings and AIA Group each edged up 0.2%, while Ping An Insurance dipped 0.3%, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing ( HKEX ) fell 1.1%.
