9th July 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities started softer on Thursday as geopolitical tensions resurfaced, with the Hang Seng Index slipping 18 points, or 0.07%, to 24,181 at the open. Turnover was about HK$7.16 billion.
The Hang Seng Tech Index bucked the broader tone, adding roughly 0.3% to 4,744, while the China Enterprises Index was little changed at 8,083.
Among heavyweights, Alibaba rose 2.4%, Tencent edged up 0.04%, Xiaomi gained 0.47% and Meituan eased 0.18%. Zhipu Z.ai advanced about 3% on a share placement, and the CSOP SK Hynix Daily (2x) Leveraged Product (07709) rebounded 15%.
Later in early trade, Zhipu (02513) surged over 21% to a high of HK$2,222 by 09:38. At 09:30, China's June consumer prices increased 1.0% year on year (consensus 1.1%, prior 1.2%), while producer prices rose 4.1% (in line with expectations; prior 3.9%).
