7th July 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities opened modestly weaker on Tuesday, with the Hang Seng Index slipping 47 points to 23,568 at the opening bell, as turnover reached HK$14.38 billion in early trade. The Hang Seng Tech Index fell 0.4 per cent to 4,524.
Despite the softer start, Tencent bucked the broader decline, rising more than 1 per cent in early dealings. In contrast, Kuaishou dropped around 6 per cent, while media firm Most Kwai Chung surged over 14 per cent.
A newly listed stock drew significant attention after debuting below its offer price. Shares in Beijing Tong Ren Tang Healthcare Investment opened more than 13 per cent under the IPO price, leaving investors facing a paper loss of about HK$370 per board lot. The offering had attracted approximately 66,000 retail applications and was more than 250 times oversubscribed.
Market sentiment was also influenced by remarks from Pan Gongsheng, governor of the People's Bank of China, who said mainland China would channel a greater portion of its foreign exchange reserves into Hong Kong's financial markets. Speaking at the Hong Kong FIC & Bond Connect Summit in Admiralty on Tuesday, Pan said the move would inject fresh momentum into the city's development.
