23rd April 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities opened in negative territory on Thursday morning, weighed down by losses in financial stocks.
The Hang Seng Index slipped 64 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 26,098 at the opening bell. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index edged down 2 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 8,799, while the Hang Seng Tech Index dipped 1 point, or 0.03 per cent, to 4,962. Banking and insurance counters led the decline. HSBC Holdings fell 1.3 per cent, matching a 1.3 per cent drop in AIA Group. Ping An Insurance retreated 0.7 per cent, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing was down 0.2 per cent.
Performance among major technology stocks was mixed. Tencent Holdings slipped 0.7 per cent and JD.com declined 0.8 per cent, while Meituan eased 0.3 per cent and Kuaishou fell 0.2 per cent. Alibaba Group rose 0.8 per cent, and Xiaomi Corporation traded flat.
