14th May 2025 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index opened strongly on Monday, climbing 208 points, or 0.9%, to 23,316. The China Enterprises Index rose 82 points, or 0.98%, to 8,468, while the Hang Seng Tech Index gained 83 points, or 1.57%, to close at 5,352. Technology stocks drove much of the upward momentum ahead of Tencent's earnings report, with Tencent gaining 1.1%, Alibaba advancing 1.3%, Meituan up 1.4%, Xiaomi increasing 1%, and JD.com surging 4.2%. Kuaishou Technology also saw modest growth, edging up 0.4%.
Financial stocks provided additional support to the market. HSBC Holdings rose 0.8%, AIA Group gained 0.6%, Ping An Insurance increased 0.6%, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing advanced 1.1%.
In contrast, MedBot-B, a medical robotics company, faced significant pressure after a share placement announcement, with its stock plummeting by 10.3%, making it one of the day's biggest losers.
