6th October 2026 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index opened with a gain of 239 points at 24,279 and soon extended its advance, increasing by 261 points or 1.08 per cent to reach 24,301. The China Enterprises Index also recorded an increase of 78 points or 0.97 per cent to stand at 8,129, while the Technology Index added 35 points or 0.84 per cent to reach 4,219. Total market turnover reached 10.2 billion dollars.
Market sentiment was buoyed by the performance of leading technology shares. Tencent Holdings climbed by 1.1 per cent, Alibaba advanced by 3.5 per cent, Meituan increased by 1.3 per cent, Xiaomi Corporation rose by 1.2 per cent, JD.com strengthened by 1.6 per cent and Kuaishou gained 1.7 per cent.
Financial stocks also contributed to the market's upward momentum. HSBC Holdings rose by 1.3 per cent, AIA Group increased by 1.3 per cent, Ping An Insurance added 0.7 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd recorded a gain of 0.9 per cent. The combined strength of these sectors provided a firm foundation for the market's positive start to the trading day.
