(MT Newswires) -- Hong Kong stocks fell Monday as escalating tensions in the Middle East pushed energy prices higher and weighed on investor sentiment.
The Hang Seng Index lost 283.70 points, or 1.1%, to close at 24,668.18. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 84.89 points, or 1.0%, to 8,368.88.
Oil prices extended gains, with Brent on track for its strongest monthly performance on record, as intensifying attacks and a growing military presence fuelled concerns over supply disruptions.
The Israeli military said Monday that Iran conducted multiple missile strikes on Israel, with a separate attack from Yemen marking only the second such incident since the conflict began.
It also said its air force was carrying out strikes in Tehran, targeting what it described as military infrastructure.
Separately, the Financial Times reported that U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington could consider taking control of Iran's Kharg Island, a key oil export hub.
In corporate news, four companies made their debut on the Hong Kong bourse.
Epiworld International closed 35% higher at HK$103, compared with its offer price of HK$76.26.
Shandong Extreme Vision Technology ended the session 150% higher at HK$100, versus its offer price of HK$40.
Hangzhou Diagens Biotechnology advanced 112% to close at HK$209.60, compared with its offer price of HK$99.
Guangdong Huayan Robotics gained 8% to close at HK$18.40, compared with its offer price of HK$17.00.
