Chinese Shares Gain Despite US` Additional Tariffs on Aluminum, Steel; Uncertainty on Trump-Xi Call Lingers

(MT Newswires) -- Chinese stocks gained for a second straight day on Wednesday even as US President Donald Trump's increased tariffs on aluminum and steel imports take effect.
The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, rose 0.4% or by 14.23 points to 3,376.20. The Shenzhen Component Index increased about 0.9% or by 87.41 points to 10,144.58.
The tariffs came into effect at noon in Beijing.
Meanwhile, uncertainty about a call between Trump and Chinese Preisdent Xi Jinping is also lingering. Trump said he likes Xi but called the Chinese leader tough and "extremely hard to make a deal with," according to a post on Truth Social.
In the corporate front, BOE Technology finished 3% higher after boosting its stake in subsidiary Wuhan BOE Optoelectronics following a capital reduction.
