(MT Newswires) - Chinese shares climbed on Monday as the contraction in the manufacturing sector slowed and the non-manufacturing sector expanded.
The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, rose 0.6% to 3,444.43. The Shenzhen Component Index went up 0.8% to 10,465.12. Both indices were up for a second straight session.
China's manufacturing purchasing managers' index rose by 0.2 of a percentage point to 49.7 in June, in line with median forecasts by economists polled by Reuters.
The indices for large enterprises increased 0.5 of a percentage point to 51.2, and that of medium-sized businesses rose 1.1 points to 48.6. Meanwhile, the index for small enterprises was down 2.0 points to 47.3.
Meanwhile, China's non-manufacturing activity rose 0.2 of a point to 50.5 in June. The index for the construction sector grew 1.8 points to 52.8, while that of the service sector slipped 0.1 point to 50.1.
In company news, GCL Energy Technologysaid Shanghai Qichen has trimmed its stake in the company to 36.8% from 42.7%. Shares of the polysilicon products manufacturer jumped 10% Monday.
